NADMO supports 3 districts in C/Region with relief items

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has presented relief items to residents of three districts in the Central Region who recently were hit by a rainstorm.

The items were bags of rice, mattresses, plastic buckets, washing bowls, cartons of soap, cooking oil, mosquito repellents and mosquito nets and an amount of GH20,000.

The downpour led to the destruction of houses and school buildings in the

Assin North, Agona West and Ekumfi districts.

Anwiasu in the Assin North District had at least 70 homes and structures destroyed.

The Director General of NADMO, Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, said the organisation was planning to educate people on precautionary measures during disasters.

He said disasters were bound to occur due to climate change and asked the people to prepare for disasters.

The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, said the government was committed to supporting people affected by disasters.

She, therefore, appealed to residents affected by disasters to cooperate with the relevant bodies in the distribution of relief items.

The Regional Minister also presented bags of cement to help in the rebuilding of homes that were damaged by the rainstorm.

The Chief of Anwiasu, Nana Yaw Kwanin Ababio, appealed to individuals and organisations to support the people, especially in improving health care delivery in the area.

He said the community clinic urgently needs the required logistics and staff to promote health.

Nana Ababio said “Our clinic is in bad shape, with no nurses and no light, and we need transformers to help us overcome this obstacle.”

The Assin North District Coordinator of NADMO, Adamu Frimpong, said his outfit would continue to assist victims of disasters.
