The Nabdam District Assembly in the Upper East Region is constructing six market sheds each at Nangodi and Pelungu as part of an initiative to help improve upon its internal generated revenue mobilisation exercise.
In addition, the assembly is also putting up a six water closet toilet facility with bath houses at vantage points at Nangodi, Kongo, Gane-Asonge, Pelungu, Sakoti and Zanlerigu communities.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mrs Agnes Anamoo, made these known at the maiden “2020 Meet-the-Press” encounter, held at Nangodi last Saturday.
She stated that the patronage of these facilities, which fall under the funding sources of the government’s Special Initiative Project, would yield more revenue for the assembly.
The meet the press series, organised by the assembly, was aimed at creating a platform to render its stewardship to the public.
She further stated that the construction of a slaughterhouse at Kongo and the opening up of many feeder roads from the communities leading to the market centres would also help the assembly rake in more internal generated revenue.
The street naming exercise, which aimed at strengthening the mobilisation of internal generated revenue, the DCE stressed, would be re-visited to augment the internal revenue generation of the assembly.
She indicated that the assembly had also trained many of the revenue collectors and fired those found conniving with others to exploit the assembly of its revenues.
One of the major challenges confronting most of the district assemblies in the country was on how to map out pragmatic measures to boost up their internal generated revenue to complement that of the District Assembly Common Fund from the central government to carry out developmental projects in their respective jurisdictions.
She said the construction of the warehouse, also under the Special Initiative Project, was almost complete and would help in the storage of agriculture products to ensure food security.
The DCE, who also indicated that plans were far advanced to establish Agricultural Mechanisation Centres in the district, added that the warehouse facility when completed, would also help address the unemployment situation in the area, especially among the youth.
