Muslim leaders in N/R suspend Friday congregation prayers

Muslim leaders in the Northern Region have suspended Friday compulsory congregation prayers indefinitely.

The leaders took the decision after a meeting held last Wednesday to deliberate on the coronavirus (COVID) disease and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s directive on public gathering.

The leaders included representatives of the Tamale Central Mosque, Ambarriya and Masjid Bayan.

According to them, the decision to suspend Friday congregational prayers now was to comply with the government’s ban on all social gatherings.

The leaders, therefore, called on all their followers to abide by the directive and desist from doing anything contrary.

They maintained that it was important for all to support the government to stop the spread of the coronavirus, and pledged to ensure adherence to the directive.

They also pledged to schedule a day to offer special prayer against the spread of the pandemic in the country.

The leaders advised their followers to shun false information about the disease.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed commended the Muslim leaders for their readiness to support the government in the fight against the spread of the deadly disease in the country.
