MTN FA Cup: AshGold thrash Berekum Chelsea to book final spot

AshantiGold booked a place in the finals of the MTN FA Cup competition with a 4-1 thrashing of Berekum Chelsea after extra time in their semi final encounter played yesterday at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The game which started on a very intense note saw both sides desperate to secure a place at the grand finale with AshantiGold managing to break the deadlock in the 45th minute through an expertly taken set piece by Eric Esso.

A very organized and resolute Berekum Chelsea then regrouped and equalised immediately after recess through substitute Stephen Sarfo.

Both teams settled and played decent football but were unable to find the back of each other’s net, sending the game into extra time.

The very competitive game then turned to a harvest of goals by Ashantigold after Amos Nkrumah restored the lead in the first minute of extra time.

Berekum Chelsea opened up in search for a second equalizer which exposed them at the back.

But AshantiGold stayed calm and adopted counter attacks strategy which resulted in the third goal from Amos Addai.

It then turned from bad to worse for Berekum Chelsea as they protested against the goal, arguing that Addai was in an offside position.

Leading the charge was Kofi Owusu who angrily stepped on the field from the bench to express his disagreement but was sent off by the referee for misconduct.

AshantiGold further took advantage of the situation to draw more blood with a fourth goal from Seth Osei in the dying minutes of the second half of extra time to sail through to the finals.

AshantiGold await the winner of the late kick-off second semi final encounter between Accra Hearts of Oak and Medeama.
