Motorcycle rider fined GH¢1,800 for knocking down woman

The Adentan Circuit Court has imposed a fine of GH¢1,800.on a 20-year-old motorcycle rider, who knocked down a woman with his uninsured vehicle.


Sedorm Koto, in default, would serve six months imprisonment.

Koto was accused of careless and inconsiderate driving, riding a motorcycle without license and riding without insurance certificate.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges and prayed the court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah to have mercy on him.

Police Inspector Gloria Ansaa Ayim, who held the brief for Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, said on September 15, last year, Koto was riding his motorcycle from Dodowa to Madina.

Prosecution said on reaching an intersection at Adenta Washing Bay, Koto did not exercise due care and he knocked down Comfort Have, 75.

According to Insp Ayim, the victim was rushed to the Legon Hospital and she was treated and discharged on September 25, last year.

However, in October last year, Madam Have’s relative called the police informing them that the victim fell unconscious and she was rushed to the Dodowa Government Hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

Insp Ayim said autopsy conducted on Have indicated that she died of haemorrhagic stroke and hypertensive heart disease. – GNA
