The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) is to pilot an electronic learning (e-learning) platform at its alma mater in Cape Coast , next month, to supplement academic work.
E-learning is a technology based platform which supports teaching and learning through computer web. It enables students to access academic materials anywhere at their own convenience.
Work on the project, started three years ago, is currently 90 per cent complete and ready for a September 2019 startup, according to the MOBA Ebusuapanyin (family head) Captain Paul Forjoe (MOBA 1973).
In his address at the MOBA annual general meeting /induction service in Accra on Saturday, he said the pilot project would involve one class from each of the four disciplines: General Science, General Arts, Visual Arts and Technical.
He said the full rollout of the project would cost approximately 167,000 dollars for which reason the project would be extended to cover all three years as funding became available.
He said an old boy, Seth Ahene (MOBA 76), who was developing the project in collaboration with MOBA National had spent about $40,000 of his personal funds on it while other individuals and MOBA branches had pledged support.
“It is a project that will definitely impact positively on the academic success of Mfantsipim. If anyone can assist or direct us to where we can seek support to complete the project, it will be greatly appreciated,” he said.
On the much-awaited Endowment Fund, Captain Forjoe said one million cedis had been secured from the GH¢6m target and called for contribution to meet the target.
Recognising the significant role that alumni must play in the progress and success of every school, he said the fraternity, formed in 1947, would continue to galvanise support from within and outside for its alma mater.
The annual general meeting convenes all year groups every year to discuss matters concerning the association and their 143 year- old Cape Coast-based alma mater, the oldest senior high school in the country.
The nine-member reconstituted National Executive Committee (NEC) inaugurated for the fraternity is led by Captain Forjoe who is serving his second four-year term as Ebusuapanyin.
They were elected on May 30, this year by the MOBA National Council, made up of representatives of all year groups and inaugurated by President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Edward Asante (MOBA 1983).
