Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been tasked to provide the needed infrastructure to transform their communities towards holistic growth and development and enhance living standards.
They have also been asked to sustain, facilitate, guide and empower the communities to enable the residents contribute to productivity for rapid socioeconomic development.
Collins Ntim, a Deputy Minister of Local Government, Dencetralisation and Rural Development tasked the MMDCEs when he addressed heads of departments and staff of the Dormaa West Assembly during a day’s working visit to the district at Nkrankwanta in the Bono Region.
His address was preceded by performance evaluation presentations by representatives of the agriculture, health and education directorates about their respective activities and operations and commended the heads and staff of the departments of the directorates for their hard work and significant contribution towards the socioeconomic development of the district.
Mr Ntim, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, urged them to frequently interact with the communities to know their needs and provide projects that would create jobs and wealth for the people.
“The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development remains committed, dedicated and determined to the progress of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to promote public interest socioeconomically.
“The Ministry will thus continue to facilitate, guide and empower the assemblies to provide the necessary infrastructure for holistic progress, growth and development to enhance the livelihoods of the populace,” Mr Ntim assured.
He lauded the assemblies for their yeoman’s’ job and challenged them to continuously work with the degree of commitment, dedication and determination for high productivity for rapid socioeconomic development of both the district and the country.
“We have an agenda to prosecute -create jobs and wealth as our contribution towards the progress, growth and development of our people, I encouraged all assemblies to turn their challenges into opportunities to increase performance and solve the critical need for economic empowerment.
“You should reason among yourselves, strengthen best performance and confront challenges head on by sustaining the calm and peaceful environment within the region to ensure peace, unity in progress,” Mr Ntim advised.
Francis Oppong, the District Chief Executive, commended the president and the sector minister for the construction of a befitting assembly block for the efficient and effective administration of the district.
