 Miner jailed 15 years for robbery

 The Asante Bekwai Cir­cuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old miner, to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

Michael Osei denied the offence, but was found guilty after the trial, and sentenced by the court presided over by Mr Isaac Apeatu.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum told the court that Ms Sandra Adamah, the complainant, was a food vendor, and Osei, now a convict, was a miner and a resident of Abuakwaa, near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.

Prosecution said Osei patronised food at the com­plainant’s restaurant.

Chief Insp Twum said the complainant and other workers normally spent the night at the restaurant.

The court heard that how­ever, on March 13, this year, the complainant and her colleagues did not sleep at the restaurant.

Chief Insp Twum said the next day at about 5 a.m, the complainant, who was returning from town, met Osei and they exchanged greetings.

The prosecution said later, Osei trailed the complainant until she entered her room.

Chief Insp Twum said, Osei in possession of machete, entered the complainant’s room and issued threat of death and ordered victim to hand over her phones and other belongings.

The court heard that the convict took the complainant’s Itel cell phone, Samsung Android phone, and GH¢700.00 and bolted.

Chief Insp Twum said the complainant raised the alarm, but Osei escaped and went into hiding until April 1, 2024, when he was arrested at Kumasi Tafo.

Prosecution said Osei was handed over to the police at Jacobu.

Chief Insp Twum said during the investigation, Osei admitted the offence and led the police to retrieve the Itel mobile phone from a room at Patase, near Jaco­bu. —GNA
