The Middle
Belt Development Authority (MBDA) has outlined a number of projects that have
been completed under the government’s ‘$1 Million One Constituency’ initiative
within the area of its authority.
The projects described as ‘game changer
projects’ under the Ministry for Special Development Initiative (SDI) are
evident for the citizenry to see because between 2018 and 2019, over 1000
projects were initiated based on needs assessments conducted among local
communities.
They included water and sanitation, mechanised
boreholes, markets and warehouses with 142 toilets and 139 water projects in
the Ashanti Region, Eastern Region has 105 toilets and 105 water projects, with
the Bono regions having 93 toilets and water projects.
Joe Danquah,
the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority, said for the warehouses,
Ashanti and Eastern regions has seven while the Bono region has six, and Ejura warehouse commissioned recently is one
of the projects.
He was optimistic the Authority would deliver on
its mandate, on full scale within the 109 constituencies under its care and
added that ” the Authority has embarked on other projects which are
constituency-specific to satisfy the needs of the constituents also based on
assessments to ascertain the basic infrastructural priorities of each
constituency.
“Among other things done by the Authority are
the construction of mechanised boreholes at Asuogyaman and parts of Lower Manya
Krobo, ultramodern toilet facilities with bio-digester, which will turn fecal
waste into gas as well as markets at Somanya and Adukrom as well as two storey
police station at Dompoase with bungalows and libraries at Nsawam, all in the
Eastern Region.
“The Authority is a special-purpose vehicle
established by the government to fast-track the socio-economic transformation
of the Eastern, Ashanti and Bono and Ahafo regions while ‘$1 Million per
Constituency’, is a flagship government initiative aimed at meeting critical
infrastructure needs identified by local actors at constituency levels.
“Under the projects, each of the 275
constituencies is allocated the equivalence of $1 million annually, to be
invested in infrastructure development initiatives of their choice, managed and
implemented by three development authorities with the Northern Development and
Coastal Development Authorities to supervise projects in the coastal, Central,
Western, Volta, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. -adomonline.com
