Chief Executive Officer for the Middle Belt Development Authority, Mr Joe Danquah, said the sporting infrastructure projects in the Kwawu Traditional Area formed part of President Nana Akufo Addo’s commitment to providing each constituency one million dollars every year for developmental projects.
He said this after the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, had cut the sod for the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium, last Friday.
So far, he said, they have invested over GHC23 million in sporting infrastructure development including parks and astro turf pitches.
Mr Danquah urged the public to maintain the facilities as more would be built to provide employment as well as an avenue for talent development.
On his part, Gyasehene of Kwawu Traditional Area who spoke on behalf of the Paramount Chief of Kwawu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, said the project was a timely intervention as the people have longed for the reconstruction of the park.
He was hopeful Okwawu United FC would bounce back to elite football, few years after the completion of the stadium.
“We will support the contractors and provide everything needed to ensure the project is completed on time to serve its purposes,” he stated.
Also present at the occasion was the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof Peter Twumasi, Municipal Chief Executive for Kwawu West, Yaw Owusu Addo and Deputy CEO for Middle Belt Development Authority, Madam Joyce Opoku Boateng, the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour, and some other traditional rulers.
