Melcom donates to IFEJ, 11 medical centres, others

The Melcom Group of Companies yesterday presented medical refrigerators to 11 medical centres in Accra as support for the nationwide blood donation exercise held in conjunction with the National Blood Service, a few weeks ago.

The group also supported Hannah Adjei-Mensah, a public health practitioner at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to register and participate in an online Public Health Conference by the Magnus Group in Chicago, United States of America.

They also presented a gift voucher to its client, Mr Carlton Cofie who was said to have vouched for the quality of the Melcom brand in terms of its products’ quality.

It again gave out an Akai 43 satellite LED television and a home theatre system in support of the awards of the Institute of Financial and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) scheduled for this weekend.

The beneficiary medical centres included the 37 Military Hospital, Lucca Medical Centre, Maamobi General Hospital, Lister Hospital, Danpong Medical Centre, Ashaiman Polyclinic and the Holy Trinity Medical Centre.

The rest were the Franklyn Medical Centre, University of Ghana Medical Centre, Albany Specialist Clinic and the Narh-Bita Hospital.

Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, Group Director of Communications, Melcom Group of Companies in his remarks said the gesture formed part of the Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in memory of the late Group Chairman, Mr Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani.

He said the initiative started by the late Chairmanin 1989 with the main objective of providing quality service in the retail sector for the convenience of Ghanaians and foreign residents had grown into a successful enterprise.

“Comprising 54 Melcom shops, two Melcom Mini and subsidiaries undertaking Plastic Manufacturing, Electronics, Travel and Tours, Hospitality and others. Latest additions include global franchises namely GIORDANO, the quality clothing brand and PIZZA HUT serving you with the best Pan Pizza in the world,” he added.

Mr Avenorgbo stressed that the Group‘s late Chairman “demonstrated a generous heart of giving towards Ghana’shealth Care Delivery System so today the directors have decided to continue that initiative.”

He pledged the unflinching support of the Group to the new Chairperson of the group which happens to be the wife of the late Chairman to enhance teamwork, adding that “In working together as Team Melcom by harnessing the energies and expertise of every member of the Melcom family for the good of the company and in the interest ofGhana.”

He indicated that the man had interestin the activities of the media for which reason the group also supported IFEJ.

The Group’s Director of Communications, therefore, pledged the company’s continuous consistency and reliability in the services they provided.

Appreciating Melcom for the support, Miss Adjei-Mensah noted that the support will afford her the opportunity to learn on the mental health issues health practitioners were encountered in their daily lives and help educate her colleagues on it.

The representatives of the various hospitals took turns to express their facilities’ profound gratitude to Melcom for the gesture shown them and appealed for a continuous relationship.
