Melcom Care Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has presented 20,000 Jamaa soaps to four hospitals to help maintain hygiene in the wake of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Tema General Hospital and the Police Hospital, received 112 cartoons of the soap each.
The Head of Communication of Melcom Group of Companies, Mr Godwin Avernogbo, said the donation formed part of Melcom’s corporate social responsibility in the wake of the outbreak of the pandemic.
“We have programmed ourselves to support governments’ action against COVID-19. We have reached a stage that we need to directly reach out to the hospitals and find out what they need, so what we found out was soap for personal hygiene and cleanliness,” he said.
According to Mr Avernogbo, the safety of customers as well as the public was of importance to the company, adding that the donation would enable health workers and patients observe good hygiene.
Representatives of the beneficiary hospitals, took turns to commend Melcom for the gesture, and said it would enable them protect themselves from the disease.
According to them, more of such donation would be needed, and they called on individuals and companies among others to come to their aid, saying, “We need partners to help us with the needed resources to battle the pandemic.”
