Medeama put up a magnificent performance to beat Legon Cities 2-0 in their match-day 18 Ghana Premier League clash at the Akoon Park on Friday.
The home team, which scored in each half, went into the game looking to do the double over Legon Cities after beating them 1-0 in the first round of the betPawa Premier League.
Nurudeen Abdulai found the net in the 40th minute – his second goal of the season, after poking home a cross from Captain Kwasi Donsu to deliver a smashing shot to beat Legon Cities goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey for the opener.
Back from recess, Medeama SC fetched the second goal through Joshua Agyemang, who scored an absolute beauty to put the game to bed.
Medeama SC have won four of their last five home games – with the only defeat coming against Hearts of Oak on January 28, and moved to sixth on the table with 27 points after 18 matches.
In the other premiership tie on Saturday, Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko played out a goalless draw at the Nana Akromansan Park.
Nsoatreman failed to deliver on its promise of beating Asante Kotoko 3-1 at home as the Porcupine Warriors came up with a strong challenge after losing to Dreams FC on match day 17.
Coach, Seydou Zerbo, named a strong starting line up to face Nsoatreaman with former Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan making his debut for Asante Kotoko.
The two teams created a lot of chances but were unable to find the back of the net in both halves.
In the second half, Asante Kotoko were denied an opportunity at goal by center John Koffi as he cleared an effort by Steven Mukwala.
Nsoatreman appealed for a penalty in the 80th minute after Captain Richard Boadu was adjudged to have controlled the ball with his hands in the penalty area, but referee ignored those calls.
Kotoko temporarily move into second place on the league table with 28 points after the result – with Nsoatreman placing ninth with 24 points.
