Mason jailed 6 months for theft

The Winneba District Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 33-year mason, Ernest Ackom, to six months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing an HP Laptop valued at GH¢4,000.00.

The Convict, also known as ‘Naya’, who is already serving a nine-month jail term for a similar offence, pleaded guilty to stealing and the Court presided over by Mr John Kweku Josiah-Koffie convicted him on his plea.

Detective Police Inspector Madam Dorinda Azumah, said that Mr Samuel Kwesi Nyan, a businessman and owner of Wise-up Publication Centre, was the complainant, while the convict resided at Flamingo, a suburb of Winneba.

He said the complainant left his business centre in the care of an attendant at Low-Cost residential area.

Insp Azumah said the attendant, who was then sitting behind the counter, went into the shop to print a document and on his return to the counter, realised that the HP Laptop valued GH¢4, 000.00 had disappeared.

The court said the attendant saw the convict escape with the computer.

Insp Azumah told the Court that the complainant met the convict at the Winneba Zongo area and demanded the return of HP Laptop.

The convict said he gave the laptop to Acquah Sampson and pleaded with the complainant to give him time to retrieve it for him, but he failed to do so.

Insp Azumah said the complainant arrested Ackom at the Zongo Area and took him to the Winneba Police Station, where he admitted the offence and said the laptop was with Simpson. -GNA
