Manya Jorpanya climax Ngmayem festival

The Annual Ngmayem festival of the chiefs and people of ManyaJorpanya in the ShaiOsudoku District of the Greater Accra Region has been climaxed with agrand durbar on Saturday.

It had the theme; “Upholding Our Cultural Values after the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The colourful event exhibited the rich cultural heritage of the people who were in their traditional best as they carried the chief of the town, Nene Dr Tei Djahene Korabo IV, and the queenmother, Nana AyerkoBlemayoe II, in palanquins dressed in rich Kente cloths to the durbar ground.

The five-hour programme was interspersed with rich cultural displays from the “Obonu Talking Drummers,” the South African Cultural Troup, Dipo dancers while the stool chief of the Musama Disco Christ Church, (MDCC), Nana KwekuAcquahKoomson led the Tema Cathedral choir of the MDCC to provide melodious choral tunes.

It attracted several dignitaries including traditional rulers, religious bodies, corporate institutions and government officials and association of chiefs of MDCC from the Eastern and Central regions.

Nene DrDjahene in his welcome address said his ascension to the stool, 24 years ago was a very difficult one but he took inspirational and motivational quotations from the Bible and managed to harmonise financial and material resources to bring the community to its current level.

“My24-years has been a fruitful one but not without challenges, we discovered the natural resources that were used to provide social amenities and other infrastructure that have brought a great facelift to the community as government cannot do it alone,” he added.

The area, he stated,can now boast of a police station, a research centre, an ECOBANK agency,an Ambulance Service, andfactories under One-District One- Factory initiative.

Nene DrKorabo urged government to fast track the construction of the Doryumu junction to Ayikuma road and assign another contractor to re-construct the Doryumu to Kordiaberoad to facilitate the easy transportation of goods and services and to also attract more investors to the area.

He also appealed to the Minister of Youth and Sports to build an Astroturf to help unearth talents in the fields of sport.

The Presiding Member of the Shai Osudoku District Assembly, Noah Sabutey on behalf of the District Chief Executive urged the chiefs in the Shai State to unite and help promote the socio-economic development of the area.

He further urged the chiefs and land owners to have proper layout of their s and also desist from hiring land guards to protect their properties, because they would not be spared when arrested.

The chief of Gomoa Desum and Amankrahene of Akyampim in the Central Region, Nana ObokomAttah XII, who was the guest of honour urged the people of ManyaJorpanya to rally behind their chief to enable him fulfill his development agenda for the area.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, in a speech read on his behalf commended the chiefs and people for providing government with land to execute the 1D1F agenda and urged for peaceful co-existence to attract more investors to the area.
