Mandatory quarantine yielding results—Prof. Gyampo

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a lecturer at the University of Ghana, has observed that the mandatory quarantine policy of the government is yielding results which may not be appreciated by those who, fortunately, may not be infected by the deadly virus.

“Just imagine what would have happened if all who were mandatorily quarantined were allowed to go to their houses and live in the communities without the policy to isolate them for observation and testing,” he indicated.

Commending the government for the mandatory quarantine policy it had instituted in the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in a Facebook post, Prof. Gyampo noted that so far the country had recorded 68 cases with three deaths.

“Government deserves commendation for the policy, we have done better than the Italians and it is important we learn to praise and commend policymakers when they get it right and as part of measures to prevent further spread of the virus has put a ban on all public gatherings.

“It has also given a directive, all persons who arrive in the country have to go through mandatory quarantine but it should be reminded not to waste the citizenry’s taxes quarantining foreign travellers to the country in plush hotels but let them stay away.

“Enforcing border closure directives, temporarily suspending all flights to the country or let them pay for their hotel bills as they are quarantined, we may also consider housing them in temporarily vacated hostels and travellers who feel inconvenienced must know that it is not a good time for globe-trotting.

“Resources being spent in disinfecting markets, should be re-directed at supporting and assisting current fight to contain covid-19, if market disinfection isn’t a direct fight against current danger, we must rethink our use of resources, we must get our priorities right in the fight against the virus.

“Although the government must deal with insanitary conditions at market places and in environments, it must confront to contain covid-19.” Professor Gyampo suggested.  -classfmonline.com
