Man, teenager remanded for allegedly robbing businessman

The Tema Circuit Court A has remanded a teenager and a man in custody for allegedly robbing a businessman of his belongings.

George Mensah, 17, was remanded in juvenile cell, while Salifu Taidu, 25, was being held in police custody.

Mensah and Taidu, whose pleas were not taken, were charged with conspiracy to commit crime, namely robbery.

The court presided over by Ms Agnes Opoku Banie, remanded them to re-appear in court on April 17, 2023.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superin­tendent of Police (ASP) George Doe said, the complainant, Mr Haadi Zakari resides at Sunci­ty, Adjei Kojo, while Taidu and Mensah, both mechanics, reside at Apollonia.

ASP Doe said on March 26, this year, the complainant with a cut on his forehead and blood oozing out from it, reported to the police.

The court heard that the victim reported to the police that four young men armed with a pistol and pump-action guns attacked and robbed him at his residence.

ASP Doe said that the young men also attacked the family of the victim and made away with one iPhone, valued at GH¢14,000, and cash of GH¢30,000 and USD2, 000.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged robbers took from the residence of the complainant, 17 wristwatches, valued at GH¢60,000, three Itel keypad mo­bile phones, valued at GH¢600, Samsung LED TV set, valued at GH¢7000, jewelry, valued at GH¢20,000 and one wedding ring.

ASP Doe said the when police arrested Taidu, at Lebanon Zone 5, and a search was conducted in his room, one iPhone 14 Pro Max, one iPhone 12 Pro, four Iphone 12 Pro Max, four Iphone 13 Pro Max and other brands of iPhones were found.

The prosecution said four lap­tops, two tablets, three memory cards, an unspecified number of sim cards, JV SIM Cards, phone covers, GH¢12,480,00 cash were also retrieved from the room.

ASP Doe said the complainant identified the Samsung LED TV set, which was among the exhibits retrieved from Taidu’s room, as his.

The prosecution said the police detected that there were blood stains on the Samsung LED TV set, adding that Mensah was also arrested in connection with the robbery.

ASP Doe said an identification parade was conducted at the Ashaiman District Police Head­quarters, where the complainant identified Taidu and Mensah as being part of the four men, who attacked and robbed him.

He said police were making efforts to arrest two other accom­plices, and contact owners of 25 mobile phones that were retrieved from the room of Taidu. —GNA
