Man remanded for theft

A Kumasi circuit court, yesterday remanded in prison custody, a 22-year-old man for allegedly stealing assorted personal items belonging to a resident at Atonsu, Kumasi on May 20, last month. 

The accused, Cardinal Asare, also known as (alias) Nchankota, unemployed, who pleaded not guilty, would appear again on July 9, 2019.

He was accused of four counts of conspiracy to steal, stealing, unlawful entry and unlawful damage when he appeared before the court presided by Mrs Mary Nsenkyire.

Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah, told the court that, on May 20, 2019, at about 2:30pm, the Asokwa Police Patrol team had a tipoff that the accused and an  accomplice only named as  Randy (now at large), had broken into the house  of Gladys Addae, a resident of Atonsu “S – Line”, a suburb of Kumasi, and took away  her belongings.

The patrol team went to the house and arrested Asare as he was about to escape.

During a search on him, the police found a travelling bag with different types of male shirts, seven male belts, 10 wrist watches, perfumes, two Mediacom tablets and Sony digital camera. 

The rest of the items included a Mietro Beretta pistol, a pump action gun, a decoder with remote control and a 14-inch flat screen television set.

According to Chief Insp Akowuah, a witness to the case (name withheld) told police that, he saw Asare and an accomplice scaled the fence wall of Madam Addae’s house, and after entering the house, the two used a pestle to break the burglar proof metal fixed into one of the windows, and entered the room.

Chief Insp Akowuah said luck eluded them when suddenly the police arrived and arrested the accused while Randy took to his heels.

He was taken to the police station along with the items where and upon further interrogation, he was charged and arraigned.
