Man remanded for raping student

Dawn YramZaney, 29, unemployed, has been remanded into prison custody by a Ho circuit court, for allegedly stealing, and raping a student of the Ho Technical University.

His plea was not taken and would reappear in court on June 11, 2019, and his accomplice only known as “Wale”, was on the run.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Stephen Atidzon told the court presided by Mrs Priscilla Dikro Ofori that on May 22, 2019, at about 3am, the complainants, students of the Ho Technical University, headed towards the Ho Kpodzi Evangelical Presbyterian Church premises, in Ho, for studies.

The court heard that upon reaching a section of the road, near the Adaklu lorry station, at Ho-Heve, the suspects, who emerged wielding a pistol and a cutlass accosted the students and threatened to kill them if they refused to hand over their belongings.

Police Insp Atidzon said the suspects forcibly snatched the students’ mobile phones, a Techno w3 valued at GH¢400.00 and an Itel phone.

He indicated that the accused ‘walked’ the victims at gunpoint to a distance of about 150 metres, and Zaney forced one of the complainants to enter a septic tank and raped her.

Insp Atidzon said the other complainant lied that she was pregnant so the accused only assaulted her sexually by inserting his finger into her private part.

He said the accused and his accomplice bolted after the act, leaving the victims to their fate.

Insp Atidzon said a complaint was lodged at the police station and medical report forms were issued to the victims to attend hospital for examination.

He said the complainants led the police to arrest Zaney, but he denied the offence. – GNA
