Man remanded for impersonation, defrauding Swedish of $10,000

A man, who allegedly impersonated Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) DavidEklu,the Ahafo Deputy Regional Police Commander to defraud a Swedish of $10,000 has been remanded in police custody by an Accra Court till February 1, 2022.

Emmanuel Takyi, suspect, would reappear in court on February 1.

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Iddi Seidu Lansah, disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

He said last Sunday a policeman (name withheld)at the Police Headquarters arrested Takyi and handed him over to theCantonment Police station.

DCOP Lansah said according to a policeman, who is a friend to the Swedish, named MikaelErickson, the friend reported to him that the suspect, who claimed to be DCOP Eklu David Eklu, used forged police documents and identity of the said senior police officer and took $10,000.00 from him, under the pretext of supplying the victim refined gold.

The Police Commander stated that after taking the money, the suspect went into hiding until he was arrested.

DCOP Lansah said efforts were underway to retrieve all relevant documents from the suspect, and urged the public to assist in crime prevention by providing credible information to the police.
