Man remanded for attempting to steal 3-year-old girl

The Circuit Court at Ashaiman has remanded Jonhson Amadi in police custody, for allegedly attempting to steal a three-year-old girl, Belinda Agbevi.

The case has been adjourned to September 9, 2022, for further investigations.

The court presided over by Mr Richard Anku Delali remanded accused after a plea of not guilty was entered for him.

Chief Inspector Samuel Apreweh, prosecuting, said the complainant, Melody Azamu, 35, is a trader and resident of Ashaiman Taboo-line, while Amadi is a labourer, who resides at Kantamanto, Accra.

Prosecution said Azamu is the mother of the girl, Belinda Agbevi.

According to Chief Insp Apreweh, on August 11, 2022, at about 2pm, the girl was playing in the neighbourhood when a witness in the case heard the child crying.

Prosecution said when the witness came out, she saw accused holding the child’s hand and moving her away, whiles the crying persisted.

Chief Insp Apreweh said that the witness raised the alarm, which attracted people to the scene, and accused was arrested and later handed to the police at Ashaiman.

The court heard that upon interrogation, accused said he and two others came from Tudu, Accra, to Ashaiman on board a taxi cab to steal a child for money rituals, but his accomplices escaped during his arrest. -GNA
