Man jailed 9 years for theft

THE Juaben Circuit Court in has sentenced an 18-year-old to nine years’ for stealing a rickshaw, popularly known as Pragia.

Police Inspector Richard Effah, told the court that both the complainant and the convict were residents of Krofofrom, a suburb of Kumasi. He said the complainant parked the rickshaw at the Santos Hotel at Krofofrom and went to meet his manager at the Bolgatanga lorry station.

The prosecution said on his return, complainant his device was nowhere to be found, so he reported the case to the Tafo-Pankrono Police. Insp Effah said the also informed drivers who ply the Kumasi-Tamale-Bolgatanga road about the theft, and the next day, one of the drivers saw the convict riding the rickshaw from Offinso towards Abofour.

The court heard that the driver stopped the convict and with the help of other people in the area, arrested and handed him over to the Offinso police. The prosecution said the was later transferred to the Tafo-Pankrono police, where he admitted stealing the device. —GNA
