Man jailed 5 years for engaging 2 teenagers in commercial sex

Mine Victor, 32, an unemployed Nigerian, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment, for receiving and transporting two Nigerian teenagers from Madina, Accra, to Hohoe, in the Volta Region, for commercial sex.

Victor pleaded guilty with an explanation, but he was found guilty at the end of the trail.

The court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey, also ordered that the convict be deported to Nigeria after serving her sentence, and the teenagers handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for repatriation to their home country.

Inspector Rachel Osei Agyapomaa told the court that the complainants were members of the Hohoe Divisional night patrol team, while the second accused, popularly known as Cash, who is at large, is a Nigerian residing in Madina, Accra, and the convict stayed in the same neighbourhood.

The court heard that there was a conversation between one Miracle, a brother of Cash, and the victim, an 18-year-old Nigerian dancer and a friend to Miracle.

InspAgyapomaa said Miracle told the victim that he had a sister in Ghana, who was a dancer and needed people to engage in dance and music business, and the victim expressed interest.

Prosecution said Miracle informed Cash about his conversation with the victim, and she agreed to sponsor the transportation of the victims.

Inspector Agyapomaa said Cash sponsored the victims’ journey from Nigeria to Madina, Accra, (Ghana) where she stayed.

Prosecution said when the victims arrived in Ghana, Cash told them that they were to engage in commercial sex instead of music and dance business she told them about.

Inspector Agyapomaa said the victims had no choice than to agree to Cash’s proposal, and she (Cash) took them to Hohoe, to engage in commercial sex.

The court heard that Victor and the victims lodged in a guest house at Hohoe, adding that the convict escorted the victims against their will to engage in commercial sex.

InspAgyapomaa said the police team received a tip-off about activities of the case and Victor was arrested and the victims rescued.

She said the convict in her caution statement, admitted that she brought the victims to Hohoe for commercial sex. –GNA
