Man jailed 23 years for robbing, raping woman
The Tema Circuit Court B has sentenced 28-year-old unemployed Louis Dordzi Dzidefo, to 23 years in prison with hard labour, for robbing and raping a woman.
The court, presided over by Ms Bertha Aniagyei, pleaded the accused (Dzidefo) not guilty to the charge of robbery when he first appeared in court.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stella Odame, prosecuting, said the complainant resided at Kakasunanka Number One, while the convict, also known as D-claim, resided at Gbetsele.
The prosecution said on July 13, 2021, the complainant asked Dzidefo who was in charge of a motorcycle, to convey her from Kakasunaka Number One to Golf City.
ASP Odame said that on reaching complainant’s destination at Golf City, Dzidefo, requested that they exchanged phone numbers for complainant to call him to take her back to Kakasunaka Number One when she was done with her mission.
The prosecution said that the complainant obliged, and called Dzidefo to pick her back and on their way, he (Dzidefo) branched onto an unknown road with the excuse that he was avoiding the police.
ASP Odame said that upon reaching a section of the road near the Energy Commission, at Tema Community 25, Dzidefo veered into a nearby bush and parked his motorcycle at a refuse dump.
The court heard that Dzidefo, collected Samsung galaxy A3 smartphone valued GH¢1,800, and handbag containing GH¢200, room keys, handkerchief and soap from the victim, at knife point.
Prosecution said the convict also rapped his victim at the refuse dump in the bush and bolted with his booty.
ASP Odame said the complainant reported the case to the police at Golf City, and the case was referred to Tema Community 25 Police for the necessary assistance and was issued with medical form to attend hospital.
According to prosecution, Dzidefo ‘cashed out’ GH¢247 from complaint’s mobile money account from an MTN MOMO agent and transferred some amount to his cell phone number, 0242114906. — GNA
