The Circuit Court at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region, has sentenced an unemployed man, to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a pair of berk slippers, valued at GH¢70, and GH¢
|80 cash.
Ernest Appiah, 28, pleaded guilty, and was convicted on his own plea on three counts of causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
Police Inspector Emmanuel Asare told the court that the complainant, a trader/farmer resided at ABB, a suburb of Dormaa-Ahenkro, with the convict, and are relatives.
He told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Djanie Kotey that the complainant had received reports of theft allegedly committed by accused, who came home late and had been warned to desist from the act.
Insp Asare said on Saturday, May 28 this year about 6:00 pm, the complainant returned from market and detected that Ghc80 and footwear concealed in a backpack in her room were missing.
Prosecution said complainant was informed by a witness that he saw accused using a kitchen knife to force her window open.
Insp Asare said that the complainant found out that the lock affixed to the window valued at GH¢60 had been damaged.
Prosecution said the complainant reported that on Friday, June 3, this year, accused came back to the house and stole a bag of charcoal, valued at GH¢60.00.
Insp Asare indicated the youth in the area attacked and assaulted accused, adding that the police went and rescued accused, following a distress call that he was arrested and was about to be lynched.
Prosecution said the accused admitted the offence during interrogation, saying he (accused) said he kept on stealing to feed himself and buy clothes. -GNA
