A Nigerian sign writer, who abducted and defiled a 14-year-old girl, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Gender Based Violence Court, at the Police Headquarters, Accra.

Efe James Edema, 19, charged with defilement and abduction, pleaded guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Amponsah Boansi convicted Edema on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, said that the complainant, the father of the victim, and his daughter, resided at Ayikuma and accused resided at Nungua, Accra.

Prosecuting said last year, Edema worked at Ayikuma and befriended the complainant and members of the family.

Insp Aniagyei said in September 10, this year, Edema informed the complainant that his work at Ayikuma had ended, and he would return to Nungua.

The court heard that the complainant later realised that his daughter was no where to be found after Edema had left Ayikuma.

Insp Aniagyei said the complainant search for the victim to no avail, and therefore, reported the case to the Police at Ayikuma.

Prosecution said the complainant posted the pictures of the victim on the status of his phone and other social media platforms.

Insp Aniagyei said the complainant was informed by his brother residing at Nungua that he saw a girl who resembled the victim in the company of Edema.

Prosecution told the court that the complainant asked his brothers to snap pictures of accused and the victim and send same to him (the complainant).

Insp Aniagyei said when the pictures of the victim and Edema were sent to the complainant, he identified the victim as the daughter.

The prosecution said the complainant went to the Nungua Police Station with an Extract of Occurrence fromAyikuma Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit for assistance.

It said Edema was nabbed by the police and the complainant was issued with a medical report to take the victim to the hospital for examination. –  GNA
