Man in trouble for GIS enlistment fraud

Fred Dela Adzisam, 56, who allegedly defrauded six people in Ho of GH¢11,900, under the pretext of facilitating their enlistment into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), has been arrested.

According to the police, the suspect, who was grabbed at the weekend, swindled his unsuspecting victims of money more than three years ago, and went into hiding.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anthony Danso, in-charge of the Ho municipality, told the Ghanaian Times yesterday that the suspect finally ran out of luck when he was spotted at the Ho Barracks New Town last Saturday, by a woman he defrauded.

The woman, a trader, raised the alarm and sought assistance from other members of the public and the suspect was arrested and handed over to the police.

DSP Danso said that Adzisam first visited a 33-year-old trader in her shop at Ho-Dome in June, 2016 under the pseudonymous name ‘Kabe Fred Delali’, and offered to help her secure enlistment into the GIS.

The suspect demanded GH¢1,700 from the woman to aid the process and the woman obliged.

Subsequently, the woman introduced six other people to the suspect, who paid him various sums of money to assist them.

The Municipal Police Commander said that Adzisam, who was in police custody, and being investigated for defrauding by false pretence had admitted the offences.

Investigation continues.
