Man in trouble for allegedly swindling entrepreneur of $98,700

The Circuit Court in Accra has remanded a businessman over a $98,700.00 fraud, in connection with plans to set up a Satellite Television (TV) station.

Daniel Kofi Ansah Akuffo, who denied the charge of defrauding by false pretence, would reappear before court on May 9, 2022.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Maxwell Oppong told the Court that Mr Otniel Kwainoe, the complainant, was an entrepreneur, and resident of Dansoman, Accra.

The prosecution said Akuffo, was a businessman and in 2020, the complainant planned to set up a Satellite Television (TV) station.

ASP Oppong told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh, that accused introduced himself to the complainant as an agent of Satellite Bird, based in Dubai, who could assist him (complainant) set up a TV station.

Prosecution said accused demanded and collected US$98,700.00 from the complainant, for the purchase of broadcasting equipment, to set up the TV station, but he failed to fulfil the promise.

ASP Oppong said complainant made efforts to retrieve the money to no avail.

Prosecution said the matter was reported to the police and accused was invited several times to the police station to assist investigation, but he failed to turn up.

ASP Oppong said a criminal summon was prepared and served on him to appear before the court. – GNA
