Man in court for having sex with 14-year-old daughter

A 62- year-old trader has been put before the Circuit Court in Accra, for allegedly having sex with his 14-year-old daughter

Nicolas Opoku, charged with defilement, incest, and indecent assault, has pleaded not guilty.

The accused, who is believed to have sexually molested the victim since 2015 to May 2022, is expected to reappear on June 20, for Case Management Conference.

The court has ordered prosecution to file its disclosures and serve same on the accused.

Inspector OpokuAniagyei, prosecuting, said the complainant was a food vender residing at AbosseyOkai, Accra.

The court heard the victim, a junior high school student, now resides with the complainant, who is her mother.

Prosecution said accused, who resides in the same vicinity, is the ex-husband of complainant and father of the victim.

Insp Opoku Aniagyei said accused, complainant and victim lived together until the two (complainant and accused) separated, when the victim was eight years old.

Prosecution said between 2015 and May 2022, while the victim lived with him, they both slept in the chamber of the “chamber and hall” apartment belonging to accused.

InspOpokuAniagyeisaid accused took advantage of the situation and inserted his finger into the genitals of the victim anytime she slept.

Prosecution said the victim informed her cousin, who also slept in the hall, about her ordeal, adding that the cousin moved to the chamber and accused stopped the act.

InspOpokuAniagyei said on May 13, this year, when the victim had returned from school, she went to the bedroom to remove her school uniform.

The court heard that accused, who was also in the bedroom, ordered the girl to lay on the bed, undressed and  had sex with her.

Insp Opoku Aniagei said the girl called the complainant on phone, threatening to kill herself if she failed to take her away from her father’s house.

 Prosecution said complainant rushed to the ex-husband’s house in the company of two others and rescued the victim.

Insp Opoku Aniagyei said the complainant reported the matter to the Greater Accra Regional office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, and she was given a police medical form to take the victim to the hospital for examination and treatment.  -GNA
