A 24-Year-Old man, Samuel Nii Ayi Lartey, has been granted GHC70,000.00 bail with two sureties, by the Accra Circuit Court, for allegedly threatening to kill a pensioner.

The court ordered that the sureties must be public servants earning not less than monthly salary of GH¢1,000.

Nii Lartey, unemployed, is also facing an unlawful entry and attempted stealing charges, which he denied. He will appear again before court on February 1, 2023.

Police Chief Inspector Benson Benneh told the court that Mr Charles Allotey, the complainant, was a pensioner, residing at Old Dansoman, Accra, while Lartey, resides at Lotto House, Dansoman, Accra.

The court heard that on January 5, the complainant heard an unusual noise in his room, but he did not see anyone and went back to sleep.

Chief Insp Benneh said the complainant later searched the rooms and saw Lartey hiding in his washroom.

The prosecution said that the complainant found out that Lartey forced opened the trap door and main door, before entering the room.

Chief Insp Benneh said the suspect pleaded for forgiveness, but the complainant ignored his plea.

The prosecution said that suspect pulled a pair of scissors and threatened to kill the complainant if he refused to free him.

Chief Insp Benneh said that the complainant opened the door for the suspect to escape, but a witness grabbed him and took him back to the complainant.

The prosecution said the complainant and the witness freed the accused, but they later reported the case to the police.

Chief Benneh said on January 7, 2023, the suspect was arrested in connection with another case and he was identified as the same person, who committed the offence at the complainant’s house. -GNA
