Man grabbed for stabbing father to death

A 23-year-old man, Naeem Seidu, is in the grips of the Wa Police for allegedly stabbing his father to death at Kambale, a suburb of Wa, in the Upper West Region, on Friday.

Seidu , unemployed, who was arrested after a complaint was  lodged by a member of his family, allegedly stabbed his father, Seidu Ginbani, eight times with a sharp instrument yet to be  identified by the police.

The Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Reynolds Manteaw, who confirmed the tragedy to the Ghanaian Times at Wa, said Ginbani, who was covered with blood, died at the regional hospital.

“The body had been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy. We only met blood stains at the crime scene and it was because the incident happened around 2 am and we were informed in the morning. We have the suspect who happens to be his son and have subjected him to investigation,” he stated.

Chief Supt Manteaw said that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had a quarrel with the father, which was resolved in the night before the incident, and the suspect spent the night with the deceased, but allegedly stabbed him eight times with the object.

The Regional Crime Officer said the suspect in his statement corroborated that of a witness, who had testified earlier to the police that the deceased mentioned his son as his killer before passing on.

In a related development, Chief Supt Mantaew appealed to the public to volunteer information on two robbers, who shot a man in the head at Konta, a suburb of Wa, and took away his motorcycle.

He said the victim, Adinam Alhassan, sustained injuries in the head and had been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.
