Man grabbed for burglary

A 29-year-old man, who allegedly broke into a shop and stole items, has been arrested by the police at North Legon, in Accra.

Isaac Okli is currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge, confirmed the theft to the Ghanaian Times yesterday.

She said the police had retrieved one flat screen television set, two sewing machines, six plastic chairs and one water drum from Okli.

DSP Tenge, said on March 19 around 5:55am, Okli chartered a taxi to carry the goods from North Legon to Madina.

She said when the taxi driver suspected the items were stolen, he diverted his route and went to the Agbogba Police Station to make a report.

DSP Tenge said the suspect attempted to run away when the car stopped, but he was pursued by the taxi driver and arrested, and was being detained in custody pending further investigation.

The Police PRO said efforts were been made by the police to trace the owner of the items.

DSP Tenge commended the driver for his patriotism, and urged the public to assist the police in crime prevention.
