Man grabbed for attempting to rob bank

A man, who attempted to rob the GCB Bank, Kasoa branch, in the Central Region, has been arrested by the police.

Kwesi Apiadah, a commercial motorcycle rider, popularly known as ‘Okada’, armed with a knife stabbed a police Inspector during his arrest.

The Kasoa Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kofi Adu, confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, yesterday.

He said on September 27, 2019, at about 2:00 p.m, Apiadah, who was on megaphone making statements about the economy and that he was going to rob a bank to get money.

The Police Commander said the suspect armed with a knife attempted to enter the bank, but the policeman on duty (name withheld) fired warning shots and called for reinforcement to ensure his arrest.

ACP Adu said in an attempt to arrest the suspect, he stabbed Inspector Charles Yeboah of the Kasoa District Police Patrol on the left wrist.

The Police Commander said the injured policeman was rushed to the Kasoa Clinic.

He said Apiadah, who has been arraigned before the Kasoa Circuit Court for charges of attempted robbery and causing harm, has been remanded in police custody till October 14.  

He said the injured policeman had been treated and discharged from the hospital, adding that  ACP Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, the Deputy Regional Police Commander of the Central Region, led a team of police officers to visit their injured colleague.
