Man arrested for inflicting cutlass wounds on 4 victims

A man, who ran amok and attacked four people with a cutlass at Abossey Okai, in Accra, on Monday has been arrested by the police.

The suspect, believed to be in his thirties, was said to have inflicted cutlass wounds on the head, fingers and body of Sabah Aryeetey, 58, driver’s mate,  RahabMusah, 30, trader, IssahMahama, 65, trader andSahiduAwutah, 70, tailor.

The Director of the Police Public Affairs, Superintendent of Police (Supt) AlexanderKwekuObeng confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday.

He said the police received information that a crowd had attacked a young man at AbosseyOkai, Accra, for inflicting cutlass wounds on four people for unknown reasons.   

Supt Obeng said when the police proceeded to the scene, they saw the suspect and four victims, who had suffered injuries on their bodies and were bleeding.

He said the suspect, who was behaving abnormally, together with the victims were rushed to the Police Hospital, Accra, for medical attention. 

Supt Obengstated that according to the doctors at the hospital, the victims were treated and discharged

He said, “However, Awutah and Mahama whose head and left ring finger had been severed as a result of the attack, were referred to Korle Bu  Teaching Hospital for further examination and treatment.”

Supt Obeng said the suspect was on admission and the cutlass he used in committing the crime has been retrieved.
