Man arrested for burgling W/Regional’s residence

The Takoradi Harbour Police, on Saturday morning, arrested Emmanuel Kumi, 21, for allegedly burgling the residence of the Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, in Takoradi.

The Ghanaian Times gathered from police sources that Kumi, from Amanful in Takoradi, entered the house of the regional minister, and stole items from the kitchen and the rooms.

The source said,  at about,  5.20a.m., Kumi  scaled  the  wall of the residence  of   Mr Darko-Mensah,  but Sophia Afranie, a niece  of the minister, raised the alarm, when she saw the suspect.

The source told the Ghanaian Times that Kumi, who was naked, wielded a metal bar of a scaffold during the alleged burgling at the residence.

The suspect, the police source added, entered the kitchen, took biscuit from the fridge, and entered another room and took jeans trousers, picture of Mr Darko- Mensah with the Chief Imam, and a children bicycle and a Christmas tree.

The source said Kumi attempted to escape, but, the Regional Minister and others raised the alarm, and called the Harbour Police, who arrested and detained the suspect for interrogation.

The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, confirmed the story and explained that “this is  a case  of unlawful entry.”
