The Anfoega District Police have arrested Alhassan Kossi, 20, in connection with the alleged murder of a 12-year old boy, at Awate Todzi near Anfoega in the Volta Region.
A brief by Regional Police said investigations revealed that the suspect, who was a neighbour, sneaked into the room of the boy’s mother and stole GH¢100.00.
It said in the process, the boy caught the suspect in the act and threatened to report him to his mother.
Kossi, in a bid to prevent the boy from reporting, attacked and strangled the boy until he died.
Police investigations indicate that the deceased’s mother, who operates a shop near her house, left earlier and asked her daughter and the boy to join her at the shop so that they could attend church service.
It said when the boy was not coming to the shop,the mother went to the house only to find the son unconscious and shouted for help.
Police said the boy was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. When the suspect was arrested, he confessed to having strangulated the boy to avoid being caught for stealing money. – GNA
