Former President John Dramani Mahama has praised Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang as a woman of unparalleled integrity, saying her credentials were unmatched and her passion for Ghana’s development was unwavering.

Speaking at the official outdooring of Prof. Opoku- Agyemang as his running mate, Mr Mahama lamented that the current administration’s mismanagement had led to a crisis of faith in democracy among Ghanaians.

The event, which took place at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), was attended by top party officials and supporters of the NDC.

Mr Mahama, who is flagbearer of the NDC said Ghana urgently needed a “reset”, and that he and his running mate were the perfect duo to steer the country back on track.

He extolled Prof. Opoku- Agyemang’s virtues, saying her integrity was beyond question, adding that she would bring a much needed sense of accountability and transparency to government.

He pledged that together, they would fight corruption and ensure that all Ghanaians had an equal opportunity to thrive.

The former President highlighted Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s passion for empowering women and young people, saying she understood the importance of creating an economy that worked well for all.

He expressed confidence that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang could represent Ghana with dignity and efficiency on the global stage, and was embodying the dreams and aspirations of every Ghanaian, particularly women.

“Together Prof. Opoku- Agyemang and l will use Ghana’s resources to transform the economy,” he added.

The former president said, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was a dedicated public servant, who would help him deliver his campaign promises.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said: “Thank you, for accepting my nomination and endorsing me. Accept my undying gratitude. My plea is for all of us to contribute our quota towards achieving our mandate.”

She said by re-nominating her, Mr Mahama had shown his commitment to promoting inclusivity.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said women were capable of high achievement, adding that she was ready to support the NDC flagbearer’s vision of ensuring prosperity for all Ghanaians.

National Chairperson for the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketia, urged members of the NDC to focus on truthfulness and responsibility in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

He acknowledged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had significant financial resources, but emphasised that the NDC should not compromise its values by engaging in “money politics.”

Mr Nketia said “Let us be aware that the NPP has a significant financial advantage, but we must not compromise our values by engaging in money politics. We will not compete with the NPP in terms of financial resources, but we will focus on truthfulness and responsibility.

“Let us not adopt the NPP’s dishonest tactics. The NDC is a party of truthfulness and integrity, and we must maintain this stance. We are on the path to victory, but we must not be complacent. Let us work together to ensure our success in the upcoming general elections”.

He said Prof. Opoku- Agyemang is “a seasoned academia and politician, who brings a wealth of experience to the party’s ticket.”

Mr Nketia called on supporters of the NDC not to assume that the NDC had already won the 2024 elections, “instead, let us strive to earn the trust and support of the electorate. We are all behind our flagbearer, Mr Dramani Mahama, and we must work together to achieve victory.”

General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, on his part said the NDC believed in positioning Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to bring relief to the country.
