Madina gets adolescent, reproductive health centre

An Adolescent and Reproductive Health Centre to serve as a temporary Shelter for abused and displaced children, was on Monday handed over to the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Health Directorate in the Greater Accra Region.

The facility, which is the phase one and started six months ago has a counselling and consultation rooms, a nursery, a pharmacy, reception, washrooms and disability friendly facilities.
The La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Chief (MCE), Mrs Jennifer Dede Adjabeng handing over the keys urged the health directorate to effectively manage the centre and also adopt a strict maintenance culture to preserve the edifice.
She said the municipality had now become the centre of Accra, with numerous challenges including high youthful population, teenage pregnancy and a lot of molestation cases at home and school.
The facility, Mrs Adjabeng explained would create that avenue for the victims to freely open up to the professional health workers who would guide them on what to do.
“This facility must effectively serve the community and the children to produce future leaders who would serve the people instead of becoming a burden on society,” she added.
The MCE pledged the assembly’s commitment to supporting the health directorate to enable it deliver on its mandate.
The Municipal Health Director, Dr Mrs Priscilla Opoku, commended the assembly for the timely intervention and assured that the facility would be used to promote health education in the Municipality
She added that the centre would boost the work of the trained professionals to deliver first class
