Kumasi Asante Kotoko was held to a pulsating 1-1 draw game by visiting Liberty Professionals in their seventh week Ghana Premier League (GPL) match at the Baba Yara Stadium, yesterday.
The Reds played their second home game behind closed-doors and were just lucky to share the points, judging from their lackadaisical performance especially in the first half.
It was quite a beautiful afternoon of football as Liberty, who have not lost a match away, held the host boot for boot.
Kotoko had the better of the opening 45 minutes, but were held by the visitors in the first half.
Richard Arthur could have opened the scores when he latched onto an Emmanuel Gyamfi cross from the left-wing but headed the ball off target when the game was 17 minutes old.
In a second half that saw Liberty Professionals take the game to the hosts, Shamimu Muntari fired a pile driver that zoomed straight into the net in the 57th minute.
Kotoko accepted the challenge and threatened through Richard Arthur whose shot hit the post in the 59th minute.
Both teams upped their game but it was Liberty that nearly got the second goal but the chance was missed in the 70th minute.
Kotoko came into the picture as Patrick Yeboah played a lofted pass to William Opoku Mensah who took advantage of a miscommunication between the Liberty goalkeeper and a defender to head home to cancel the lead in the 86th minute.
In the process, the Liberty goalie crashed with the defender and appeared to be seriously injured and was replaced, put in an ambulance and sent to the hospital.
