There is the need for a conscious effort by members of the public to support vulnerable individuals in any way they could to alleviate poverty and empower women in the country.
“Poverty largely hinders development and if we live in a society where many people are sensitive to the needs of the vulnerable people they see around, this world would be a better place.”
Founder of Scopy Foundation and Group, an NGO focused on women and child protection, Madam Naomi EsiAmoah made this assertion in an interview with the Ghanaian Times in AwutuKwaoBondzie in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region on the need to champion the course of women empowerment and child protection in the country.
She stated that since its inception, her outfit has supported thousands of children and women in diverse ways adding that if more people develop the interest in creating a better environment for children to thrive and secure their future, more lives would be transformed.
“With the little resources at our disposal look at what we have done, so imagine if we have more people engaging in similar activities to support women and children in this country, you can see that gradually poverty can be eradicated from this nation. It is possible,” she stressed.
She said her outfit had succeeded in seeing many through both formal and informal education, while supporting women, especially widows with skill training programmes and startups so they could have meaningful sources of livelihoods.
She stressed the need for parents who could not afford to fend for their wards to desist from abandoning the children, saying children, due to how vulnerable they were, deserved to be cared for with compassion.
Madam Amoah who won the MTN heroes of change in 2018 for her enormous support to vulnerable groups revealed that some females under her mentorship were currently studying in various universities across the country while others had graduated and were working in the corporate world.
“When I see people we helped thriving, it gives me the strength to do more. Some of our beneficiaries have been awarded scholarships to study in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Let us not rob children and the poor of the opportunity to have a bright future, you can share the little you have with someone who has nothing at all so that we can all rise together,” she added.
Assuring of Scopy Foundation and Group’s continuous support to persons in need, Madam Arku urged women to desist from letting their gender be a barrier to any career choice they wanted to make, revealing that she had even trained an all female brass band group among others.
“We also have a cultural troupe comprising of well trained young persons who go out there to display the great tradition of this country through intricate dance steps,” she added.
She appealed to individuals and corporate bodies to support her outfit with materials like beads, brass band instruments and cash to be able to reach and offer skill training to more people.
This, she said would go a long way to lift more people out of poverty as her outfit embarked on identifying talents in gifted vulnerable individuals, harness them and teach them how to make profit out of their craft.
Madam Amoah further revealed that most of Scopy Foundation and Group’s beneficiaries were within the Awutu Senya West District.
