Let’s rise up against vigilantism–Toobu

Peter Toobu, a former Executive Secretary at the Office of the Inspector General of Police, has called on the citizenry to rise up and demand an end to political vigilantism since the numerous strategies outlined to deal with vigilantism will fail if the citizenry don’t take action against it.

“When the Delta Force speaks politicians listen, Bolga Bull Dogs, when they speak, politicians listen, when you and I speak, maybe no one will listen because we don’t have that catalyst that can push them out of power,” he lamented.

Mr Toobu, who is seeking to be the Member of Parliament for Wa West, cautioned that “but a time is coming and the time is now, that the citizenry will rise to the occasion, tell the politicians that there is no bullet more powerful than the tongue, we are always ready to vote in line with our own conscience that cannot be bought is the only time that the animal called political vigilantism will begin to die”.

He also referenced the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence which he indicated betrayed the honesty of the political leadership in the country, stakeholders in government called for the need to enhance the capacity of criminal justice agencies to deter political vigilantism, to deal with the challenge, the Vigilantism and Related Offences Bill, 2019 was passed by Parliament.

“The bill is geared towards making it illegal to participate in the activities of a vigilante group that is associated with, related, connected or affiliated to a political party which also targets persons who act as landguards and persons who engage in other acts of vigilantism,” Mr Toobu stressed. -citinewsroom.com
