Legon Cities to make amends against AshGold

Drenched at the relegation zone, Legon Cities will play host to second-placed AshGold SC in a 10th week Ghana Premier League (GPL) late kick off (6pm) game at the Accra Sports Stadium today.

With only a win in the competition, Cities have aimed to return to winning ways but will find the well composed Miners a hard nut to crack.

Coach Bashir Hayford, who took over from Goran Barkjaterivic, last defeat in the competition was a 2-1 loss to Aduana Stars last weekend and will be hoping to make amends against the Miners.

Already tipped as title favourites, Milovan Cirkovic and his charges who grabbed a point against Medeama SC last weekend, could feed on Cities to unseat league leaders Karela United momentarily and hope the leaders fall to Great Olympics the following day.

After nine games, 18th placed Cities can only boast of one victory, five defeats and three draws, raising eye-brows over Hayford’s future.

However, the gaffer has expressed his displeasure about the current state of the club and has vowed to turn things around with respect to goal scoring which has been a problem.

He will rely on the individual brilliance of new signings Elvis Opoku, Baba Mahama, Foster Braimah and youngster Matthew Anim Cudjoe in order to record their second win as they aim to escape relegation.

Ashgold SC in their last trip to the capital managed a slim 2-1 win over Great Olympics and also managed a point against Hearts in a 2-2 stalemate. With the likes of Hans Kwofie, Appiah McCarthy, David Abagna and Yaw Annor, the Miners look to deepen the woes of Legon Cities.

Tomorrow at the same venue, Great Olympics will be up against Karela United in a top five battle.

Other games set for the weekend includes a clash between Asante Kotoko against Aduana Stars, Hearts against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park, King Faisal versus Eleven Wonders at Techiman, Elmina Sharks hosting Bechem United, Medeama SC versus Inter Allies at the Akoon Park at Tarkwa and Dreams FC against Liberty Professionals at Dawu.
