A multipurpose learning and development centre and a maternity block have been inaugurated at Wiamoase in the Afigya Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region to improve education and health care delivery.
Constructed under the auspices of Wiamoase Citizens in the diaspora, the block is located at the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Hospital, while the centre has a library and other facilities for persons with disability and marginalised persons.
The Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Mrs Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, who is a native of the town, joined the chiefs and people of the area and those in the diaspora, to inaugurate the facilities during the Easter festivities.
The event was attended by dignitaries including the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu; Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a High court judge, Justice Oppong, the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo,
Others were the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East, Mavis Nkansah; MP for Nsuta Kwamang Beposo, Adelaide Ntim as well as the Director-General Technical, Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah.
Mrs Akosua Frema Osei Opare gave the assurance that she would help to stock the library with books and computers for the facility to effectively serve its purpose.
She appreciated the association for the efforts at augmenting the government’s effort through the execution of projects and challenged the youth not to rest on their oars in seeking knowledge through education.
Dr Adutwum urged the people not to undermine the benefits of education as it underpins the development of any society.
“Every effort must be made to ensure that most people in the society are educated,” he said.
The Chairman of the Wiamoase Citizens in the Diaspora, Kwame Apau Ohyeaman, said there were more projects to be executed to help the development of the town.
He urged other natives of the town who are in the diaspora to join the Association and contribute their quota to the development of the town.
The Chief of Wiamoase, Nana Boakye Yiadom, outlined his achievements in his nine years of reign which cover areas like education, health, security, sanitation, roads, business, sports, charity and other sectors.
He acknowledged the support of his subjects over the years, adding that he would continue to provide the right leadership and spearhead efforts that would accelerate the development of the town.
The holidays presented the stakeholders the opportunity to inspect ongoing initiatives constructed in partnership with the government including a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) facility which is about 70 per cent complete and a Salvation Army hospital.
They also checked the progress of work on the first-ever Magistrate Court building in the town which would help to enhance justice delivery and end the era where citizens travel to other parts of the district to access legal aid.
