Late Oly rally averts Gold Stars upset

Accra Great Olympics rallied from 2-0 to draw 2-2 with visiting Bibiani Gold Stars in their betPawa Ghana Premier League match day 12 game played at the Accra Sports Stadi­um. yesterday.

Two goals in a two-minute blitz from Emmanuel Antwi and Aryeetey Ayikwei late in the gamecanceled Richmond Opoku Manu’s 27th and Ebenezer Abo­agye’s 61stminute strikes.

The game came alive when Ya­haya Adraman delivered a cross into the box for Ibrahim Laar to head onto the path of Manu who headed into an empty with goalkeeper Benjamin Asarelost in the action.

Gold Stars could have made it two by the 38thminute but Prince Kwabena Owusu ballooned a good chance over the bar.

Owusu had a second bite of the cherry but his clever chip was dealt with by Asare who acrobati­cally pushed the ball over the line.

Olympics had their first decent chance through Emmanuel Men­sah who beat goalkeeper Joseph Baah in post for Gold Stars but the goal bound shot was cleared off the line by defender Empem­Dacosta.

Baah was called to duty again in the 48th minute as his one hand save denied Samuel Quayeof the equalizer for the host.

Five minutes after his intro­duction, Ebenezer Aboagye fired home the second goal for the visitors.

Olympics stand-in coach Ahmed FatawuAbubakariquickly brought onEmmanuel Akesseh, Michael Yeboah, Boateng Frim­pong and Aryeetey Ayikwei for a more attacking play.

That gambled paid off as Antwireduced the deficit with a clinical finish while Ayikwei headed home the equalizer two minutes later.

With a few minutes left plus time added-on, Oly laid a siege in the visitors in a bid to pull a sensational feat but Gold Stars kept them at bay till the final whistle went.
