Lamplighter Community Schools wins Indece Day quiz

Lamplighter Community School in the Bia West District of the Western North Region on Thursday emerged winners of the maiden Independence Day Inter-District Junior High School (JHS) Quiz held at Sefwi Wiawso.

They garnered 56 points to beat their close contenders, Enchi Roman Catholic Basic School who fell short of three points and Watico Demonstration School with six points, for the coveted trophy.

They received HP laptop, multipurpose printer, gold medals, plaques, certificates and textbooks including Mathematics, Science, English and Information Communication Technology (ICT) while their contenders received HP laptop, silver and bronze medals, textbooks, plaques and certificates respectively.

Thirteen schools competed in the quiz among which included Life Education School Complex, Samatex School Complex, Adjaka Manso and Royal School who all received certificates of participation, text books and mathematical sets.

The Western North Regional Minister, Mr Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu lauded the winning team for their hard work and called on them to continue striving for excellence.

He indicated that education was paramount as it enables individuals to become useful citizens to propel national development.

The annual quiz competition, Mr Aboagye-Gyedu said would motivate students to learn hard to demonstrate their academic intellects, stressing that this would prepare them for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

He urged teachers to improve teaching to enhance participation in class as that would go a long way to improve healthy competition among schools and students and project the image of the region.

The Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Katakyie Kwasi Bumangaman II, in a speech read for him commended the organisers of the programme for such initiative, adding that this would promote education in the region.

He pledged his outfit’s support to partner with educational stakeholders to strengthen education for the indigenes to embrace.

Katakyie Bumangaman noted that education was the bedrock for development and underscored the need for necessary measures to be put in place to boost it.

The competition was sponsored by corporate institutions namely Engineers and Planners Construction Ghana Limited, Kinross Chirano Gold Mines Limited, Agroecom Ghana Limited, Samatex Timber and Plywood Limited, Top Quality Investment Limited, Adwumpa Cocoa Buyers Ghana Limited and Cocoa Merchants.
