LaDMA tows vehicles, fixes 600 street lights

The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) fixed about 600 street lights within various electoral areas and painted kerbs along ceremonial and other inner roads in the municipality ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

As part of its efforts to ensure cleanliness in the municipality for the Yuletide, the assembly towed all vehicles parked on the streets to the assembly premises to ensure free flow of traffic and the owners surcharged.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Solomon Kotey Nikoi made these known at the weekend during a cleanup exercise organise by LaDMA to give the area a facelift and check environmental indiscipline.

Activities included the desilting of choked gutters, carting of refuse and clearing of open spaces overtaken by weeds.

In a short address after the exercise, the MCE called on residents to assist the assembly to ensure that all surroundings were clean to ensure a healthy environment.

Mr Nikoi said all the revenues which the assembly pumped into solving these indiscipline activities deprived them from executing massive developmental projects envisaged for the municipality.

He cited projects such as school buildings, hospitals, markets, recreational parks, furniture, computers, pipelines, electrifications, wash room facilities, roads, clinics, funds assistance, empowerment initiatives and other developmental projects were kept on the drawing board due to lack of revenue to execute it.

The MCE said over-stayed towed vehicles in the custody of the assembly could be auctioned if owners refused to come for them after a period of time.

He indicated that the assembly was coming up with stinging measure to mitigate such indiscipline practices which would enable it rake in more funds to execute planned projects in the area.
