The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Mr Solomon Kotey Nikoi, on Tuesday presented over 160 dual desks to three public schools in his municipality to replace the broken ones.
The beneficiary schools are La Home School, La Yaoshua and La Wireless, with the schools receiving 40, 60 and 60 desks respectively.
Making the presentations, Mr Nikoi stated that the desks were part of over 1500 furniture purchased from the District Assembly Common Fund at a cost of GH¢200,000.
According to him, the presentation formed the first phase of an initiative to enable the schools to replace broken-down furniture to enable students to sit and study in a comfortable manner during classes.
Mr Nikoi said it would also enable teachers to teach without students complaining of lack of desks in the classrooms.
The MCE said the decision to provide the desks was based on the COVID-19 protocol assessment the assembly undertook.
He said before the end of the first term in 2021, if not all, most of the schools would have new dual desks to enable them to study comfortably.
Mr Nikoi said the assembly had earlier distributed school uniforms and shoes to needy students to enable them to attend school after staying at home for several months due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The MCE said the problems in the schools in the municipality could not be solved within a day but with constant determination, they, as an assembly, would do their best to intervene and support them.
For his part, the headmaster of La Yaoshua School, Mr Raymond Mensah, thanked the assembly for coming to their aid to ease the furniture challenge in the classrooms.
‘We were challenged with furniture due to shortage and breakdown of most chairs and tables in the schools but with this presentation, it will ease the pressure on the few ones and also create the needed distance among the students to observe the health protocol,” he said.
