KWMA identifies four untapped tourist sites

The Krachi-West Municipal Assembly (KWMA) has indentified four untapped tourist attraction sites in the municipality with the objective to develop them as major tourism hubs in the Oti Region.

These are the ancient German slave fort, an old German armoury, rock-beach and the grave of a great Islamic scholar, Ashier Omar.

The Krachi-West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Emmanuel Kajal Jalula, made this known at a programme dubbed: “Pontoon show at Kete-Krachi” on Monday to usher in the New Year by the youth in the municipality.

The pontoon parping programme is a source of entertainment for the people in the Krachi-West Municipality. It involved a travel on the Volta Lake, where numerous indoor games including playing of cards and music which started in 2015, saw about 700 people from the Sene District in the Bono-East Region, Krachi-East and West municipalities.

Mr Jalula said the Assembly was committed to developing these tourism attraction sites to boost the internally generated fund (IGF) of the assembly, and appealed to the citizens of Krachi in the diaspora to visit home frequently with their friends to contribute meaningfully towards development activities.

The MCE said the Municipality abounds in tourism attraction sites and those identified and recorded so far needed to be developed to improve not only on the IGF of the Assembly alone, but also address the social and entertainment needs of the people which eluded them over the years.

He stressed the need for the residents to consider development as

a process, and a collective responsibility by all, which demanded that all stakeholders should play their respective roles effectively, to complement the efforts being made by the assembly, to improve on the living conditions of the people.

Mr Jalula said the Assembly was determined to ensure rapid development of the area, through an improved revenue generation, therefore saw the development of tourism as an additional opportunity that could be harnessed to mobilise more revenue for development.

He, therefore, assured investors that the municipality was one of the most peaceful areas, in the Oti Region, which they could take advantage of to explore the tourism potentials for possible investment, which he stressed promised to be a viable economic activity.

Mr Jalula observed that when developed, the tourism sites would satisfy the needs of the locals as well as internal tourists, and would have the capacity to promote tourism, where institutions like schools, organisations and individuals would visit the area, to learn more about interesting tourism sites in the area.

He urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively with the assembly, to enable it to implement relevant development projects earmarked by the assembly, saying the year 2023 is an important year and the assembly hoped to complete many of the development projects started in 2022.
