The Kpando Divisional Police Patrol Squad have arrested Amadu Ibrahim, 37, one of the five alleged highway thugs who robbed travellers on the Nkonya Asakyiri-Kpando Agbenorxoe road of cash amounts totalling GH¢21, 250 and other items last Friday.

The suspect was arrested at the Have Police Barrier while fleeing with some of the booty, including one iPhone 7cellular phone, one Infinix phone and an amount of GHC¢ 7,386.10.

The Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Edward Oduro Kwateng disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in Ho at the weekend.

He said that at about 01: 50am that day, the police received a distress call reporting an attack on travellers on a Hyundai mini-bus, GT 6645-13 on the route.

The police highway patrol team acted swiftly and dashed to the spot, but met no one there.

Later, DCOP Oduro-Kwateng said, an official complaint was lodged by the victims with the Kpando Police, prompting immediate investigations into the matter.

He said that at about midday on the same day, the suspect was nabbed at the Have Barrier with the booty.

According to DCOP Oduro Kwateng, it emerged that the cellular phones in possession of suspect Ibrahim belonged to two of the travellers.

The suspect is in police custody, assisting in investigations into the matter at the time of filing this report.

A search for the four fugitives is underway, according to DCOP Oduro Kwateng.

Meanwhile, the regional police commander has warned that any unruly group of persons who took advantage of the anti-coronavirus protocols to carry out nefarious acts would suffer swift and ruthless consequences when arrested.
