Kickboxing: Ghana to host maiden Muay Thai March 9

The maiden Muay Thai Kickboxing fight night dubbed ‘Defenders of Ghana’ is set to be held on March 9, 2019 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The event is an initiative of the Pro Fighting Factory Promotions and under the supervision of the Ghana Kickboxing Association (GKA).

The event, the first of its kind in the country, will assemble fighters from prominent kickboxing countries such as Philippines, Thailand, Switzerland, Italy, Nigeria as well as Ghana to compete for honours.

At a press conference in Accra on Friday to announce the event, Vice-President of Pro Fighting Gym, Mr. Sammy Haywood Okine stated that the association was ready to host the rest of the world to its inaugural promotion.

“We have secured the Bukom Arena for the event and we are putting plans and logistics in place to ensure the massive success of this first promotion”.

He disclosed that Muay Thai Kickboxing was an emerging sport in the country that wields great potential and must therefore be supported to thrive.

He added that the avenue will provide talented kickboxers in the country an avenue to exhibit their skills and make Ghana proud.

President of the GKA, Nii Adote Djata expressed his excitement at the promotion that offers fighters an opportunity to compete and build their skills.

He was confident the Ghanaian representatives on the night were going to stop their respective opponents.

He asked for support from the media, government and well meaning Ghanaians to sponsor the fighters representing Ghana on the day.

Ghanaian fighters billed to fight on the night include champion Jonathan Euro, Jonathan Lamptey, Stephen Bruce, Francis Dodoo and Isaac Commey.

They have all expressed their readiness to face their more exposed opponents.
